Initial Weed and Maize Response to Conservation Tillage and Liming in Different Agroecological Conditions

چکیده

Conservation tillage (CT) is an effective tool for maintaining crop productivity under adverse climate conditions, while its adoption conditioned by the possible negative response of weed. Research with CT and liming (L) was conducted at different experimental sites on acid soils (ES 1 ES 2) to determine maize weediness yield. The treatments used were ST (conventional tillage), CTD (deep loosening), CTS (shallow liming; Ly (CaO) Ln (no CaO). assessment V7 R5 growth stages. Weed density (WD), biomass (WB), weed coverage (WC), species (WSN) determined. highest WD recorded 2 in V7, WB, WC, WSN significantly higher compared ST. Liming affected decrease WC R5. average yield 36% 1. resulted 1, 2, it similar application increased given results indicated positive impact L agroecological despite weediness.

Conservation Tillage and Weed Management

Tillage has long been an essential component of traditional agricultural systems. Broadly defined, tillage is the mechanical manipulation of the soil and plant residues to prepare a seedbed for crop planting. The benefits of tillage are many: it loosens soil, enhances the release of nutrients from the soil for crop growth, kills weeds, and regulates the circulation of water and air within the s...

Weed Control for Conservation Tillage

Introduction Conservation tillage systems using sweep plows or field cultivators leave a high percentage of crop residues on the soil surface, which protects the soil from wind and water erosion (Johnson, 1950; Jones and Johnson, 1982; Allen and Fenster, 1986; Johnson et al., 1974). These systems have been successful in semiarid areas because meager rainfall after plowing does not allow weeds t...

Maize hybrid response to tillage under irrigated and dryland conditions

Wilhelm, W.W., Hinze, M.R. and Gardner, C.O., 1991. Maize hybrid response to tillage under irrigated and dryland conditions. Field Crops Res., 26: 57-66. The popularity of reduced-tillage cropping systems has emphasized the need to determine if maize (Zea mays L.) developed under conventional tillage systems (moldboard plow, disk, and harrow) is readily adaptable to conservation production syst...

Response of Maize to Tillage and Nitrogen Management

Best nitrogen management practices are the pre-requisite to warrant high maize yield. Thus, experiments were conducted to study the “effect of tillage and split application of nitrogen on hybrid maize” under semi-arid conditions of Pakistan, during fall 2008 and 2009. The experiments were laid out in randomized complete block design with split-plot arrangement, replicated three times in a net p...
